Pack Rat Privacy Policy
Pack Rat is a personal packing inventory app for saving information about boxes, items, photos, notes, and search history you create.
Information Pack Rat stores
Pack Rat can store box and item records you create, including box labels, room or location, notes, tags, item names, quantities, categories, OCR text, and scan photos you choose to add.
Local storage and iCloud
Pack Rat stores app data on your device. When iCloud and CloudKit are available for the app, Pack Rat can sync records through your private iCloud database so your data is available across your Apple devices. This is Apple iCloud storage, not a Pack Rat developer-operated server. Apple's iCloud terms and privacy practices apply to iCloud storage.
Camera, photos, microphone, and speech recognition
Pack Rat asks for camera and photo-library access so you can photograph boxes and items for inventory tracking. Pack Rat asks for microphone and speech-recognition access so you can dictate box and item notes. Apple's system services may process speech recognition depending on device and OS capabilities.
On-device analysis
Pack Rat uses Apple on-device frameworks for OCR, image analysis, color matching, dictation, and item extraction when those features are available. Local analysis is used to suggest inventory details for your review. Pack Rat does not send this local analysis to a Pack Rat developer server.
Optional cloud scan
Cloud Scan is disabled by default. If you enable Cloud Scan, save your own provider API key, and tap Analyze with Cloud for a selected box photo, Pack Rat sends that photo and any hint text you entered from your device to the provider you selected. Supported providers are OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and OpenRouter. The provider's terms and privacy practices apply to those requests. API keys can be configured in iPhone Settings. Keys entered there are stored in Pack Rat app preferences; keys entered inside Pack Rat are also stored in this device's Keychain. API keys are not sent to Pack Rat and are not synced through the Pack Rat database.
Developer-operated services
Pack Rat currently does not operate developer-run accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, or backend storage services. Pack Rat does not receive your inventory records, photos, notes, API keys, or usage analytics.
Tracking and advertising
Pack Rat does not include third-party advertising SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Data deletion
You can delete records inside Pack Rat. You can also delete the app from your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, deleting synced data may affect all devices signed in to the same iCloud account.
